Job Description
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Jumbo Underwriter to evaluate and analyze residential loan applications, ensuring they meet investor, agency, and internal guidelines. The ideal candidate will play a key role in ensuring loan eligibility, accuracy, and risk mitigation while maintaining excellent communication and providing exceptional customer service.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accurately analyze all loan documents, including AUS decision reports, credit reports, personal and business income sources, assets, preliminary title reports, appraisals, purchase agreements, escrow instructions, occupancy verifications, and fraud checks.
- Demonstrate expertise in reviewing complex tax returns, including multiple businesses and financed properties.
- Manage multiple investor guidelines and maintain a thorough understanding of Appendix Q.
- Input data into DU/LP and run final AUS.
- Maintain quality and productivity standards in line with management expectations.
- Review loan files and clear conditions with meticulous attention to detail and urgency, ensuring smooth processing for our customers.
- Accurately input loan data and decisions into the operating system.
- Ensure compliance with internal and investor overlays by examining the transaction matrix.
- Implement and enforce fraud detection measures, requesting additional documentation as needed.
- Identify and address risk factors that could compromise loan quality.
- Assist the post-closing department in resolving any pre-funding or post-purchase loan deficiencies.
- Communicate loan decisions clearly and professionally to maintain strong relationships with colleagues and clients.
- Maintain consistent communication with brokers and sales teams to provide timely responses to inquiries and demonstrate outstanding customer service.
Professional Experience, Education, and Qualifications:
- At least 4 years of recent underwriting experience with conventional loan products, with up-to-date knowledge of current guidelines, policies, and procedures (within the last 6-9 months).
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a high standard of quality.
- Extensive knowledge of FNMA/FHLMC and investor guidelines.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and effective communication skills (both verbal and written), with the ability to explain complex issues clearly and engage with a wide audience.
