Job Description

Job Summary:

This position will be responsible for patient care and surgery, teaching and research responsibilities including the training of medical students, house staff and fellows. The position will provide neurosurgical services for UW Health and will be a key collaborator with other faculty in the neurological surgery and spine programs and services at UW Health affiliated hospital and clinics.

Successful candidates will enhance existing teaching programs and may develop new teaching programs; attract patient referrals to the service; develop a plan to present information concerning neurosurgery statewide; serve as attending on spine and neurosurgery inpatient and consult services and outpatient clinics; and participate in clinical activities at UWH, UnityPoint Health Meriter Hospital, VA Hospital and affiliated hospitals and clinics.

Responsibilities:

Candidate is expected to develop an independent research program. Submission of applications for extramural funding and presentation of results at meetings and in publications is expected.

Academic responsibilities include teaching and mentoring medical students, residents and fellows as well as teaching continuing education programs for physicians and the public.

The successful candidate will also participate in professional, public, and university service appropriate to the rank and in administrative and committee work to support the clinical and scholarly missions of the School of Medicine and Public Health and UW Health. An essential part of these duties will be working in a collegial relationship with other faculty members.

For appointment on the Tenure Track: Duties will be approximately 50% clinical, 50% academic, which includes teaching and research, depending on the successful candidate.
